Tybee Island Charters

In 1985 we launched Tybee Island Charters to share the coast of Georgia with others. For over two decades we have fished the area's tidal waters and deep seas. When the tide wasn't right for fishing, we found ourselves exploring the coast's magnificent barrier islands. Along the way we discovered rich prehistoric fossil beds, nesting eagles, curious Bottlenose Dolphin, and so much more. We work the inshore zone searching for red drum, flounder, and speckled sea trout. Our deep sea adventures lead us to the realm of dolphin fish, snapper and grouper. You pick the season and we'll tell you what is biting and take you there. ****Also see Kokomo Cottage rentals under hosts. Years of cruising the waterways have given us an intimate knowledge of the areas tidal wetlands and barrier islands. Our Eco-tours can be customized for naturalists, photographers, or those who simply want to see and learn about our amazing coast. Our picnics on Little Tybee are Nature-tours with a gourmet twist. Following our life long dream, we recently added the Izabella, a 50' Albin Flybridge Trawler. Enjoy a four course dinner extravaganza while anchored in protective waters. Our dinner cruise for up to six persons is a delight for all ages. Additionally, we now offer multi-day Intracoastal Waterway tours showcasing Coastal Georgia, accommodating up to four passengers. Join us for opportunities to explore our barrier islands, fish the Georgia Coast and enjoy the experience of sunrises and sunsets on the water in style. Our Captains Captains Cecil and Elizabeth Johnson launched Tybee Island Charters in 1985 and offer a total of over 40 year of coastal water navigation and fishing experience. Both Cecil and Elizabeth acquired their knowledge of fishing under the tutelage of Capt. Charlie Walsh, an old Tybee salt. Our love of sport fishing combined with a deep appreciation of our ecology and natural resources always makes for an exciting and interesting trip. Tybee Island Charters has the reputation of service to our customers and bringing back great catches and wonderful memories. Fishing with Capt. Cecil and Elizabeth is like fishing with an old friend. Let us tell you about our rich coastal heritage as we help you explore, discover and fish the waters surrounding the barrier islands of coastal Georgia. Picture Captain Cecil R. Johnson Jr., one of the founders of Tybee Island Charters , has loved boats and water since he was a young boy. For the last twenty-five years, Cecil has lived the dream of fishing, boats, and water: literally launching Tybee Island Charters in 1985. Born in North Carolina with parents from Savannah and grandma's at Tybee, Cecil spent his vacations from when he was in diapers through college on the beaches and waters of Tybee. In 1982, after marrying Elizabeth, they settled on the island that had always been dear to him. A fortunate meeting with Captain Charlie Walsh, a Charter Boat Captain of 40 some odd years, resulted in Cecil becoming his mate. Training under Captain Charlie, Cecil strived to soak up his knowledge, fishing experience, and jovial attitude toward the sport and customers. Cecil has the reputation of service to the customers and bringing back good memories and nice catches. Every trip with Captain Cecil is like fishing with an old friend. Picture Capitan Elizabeth was born in Iowa. She met Cecil in Atlanta in the late 1970's. During their dating years, with many trips to visit Cecil's family members at Tybee, she also developed a love of the island and the unbelievable beauty of the nature around it. Also training under the wings of Captain Charlie Walsh, Elizabeth with her strong and enthusiastic personality is known as a people pleaser. Elizabeth began working full time for Tybee Island Charters in 1989. Her love of the sport of fishing combined with a deep appreciation of our ecology and natural resources always makes for an exciting and interesting trip. Elizabeth, like Cecil, helps to put everyone at ease and keeps the customers catching fish. One of her favorite sayings, "first time fishermen and women always catch the big fish", tends to hold true.
